Not strictly speaking built but put a Durafly Vampire together on Sunday using donor parts from a second hand one I've had a couple of years.
Flies beautiful though and sounds amazing!

So i was supposed to be building the P.I. Su-35 but decided i couldn't wait anymore to get my bit of retro, old school.

Soon as i have her painted, Jay and i will be on to the Su.

  3. Well I don't know what I am building yet so I can't start a thread for it. I have the main portion of the thrusters built ;) , need to still finish mounting the edf and then make some servo mounts. Once that is done is then see if I can get it to hover, maybe :D :D :D

Harrier Baby! And you'll build it, and you'll fly it, and we'll all compliment you and genuflect in your presence!

Now that's not like you Jeff! Creating a solution then looking for a problem to solve with it... :)
A VTOL Harrier indeed - the holy grail of scratchbuilding; few have attempted it, even fewer have managed to get it to work, but that was in the ancient olden days before the 3D printer... Looking forward to the maiden!

What mechanism are you using to control the flows down each port?
Are you using a gyro or getting a kk2 board to control your flow so it will hover?

  12. Nothing yet for flow and no fancy board, just the proto type, 1st I want to see it's lifting power just by itself and battery.

I would build a frame out of plastic plumbers pipe to test it like the old flying bedstead Rolls Royce built to test the Harrier engine.
I agree with WMY I am pretty sure you will need some form of flight board.

    A couple of suggestions:
    1. Ground effects of swirling air will dis-combobulate it ever to try hovering. Suggest you build adapters on your rig so you can suspend by string at least 3 ft off ground. This will reduce your crashes and if you are that far off from CG, it will buck like a bull with strings on and break.
    2. I was using 64 edf's so since battery runs are so short, provided a 12V car battery and loose wires(free swinging) to rig so I got some time running to find CG.
    3. Since your 4 airflows will vary all over the place, use duct tape and choke the exhaust area get flows about the same near hover.
    4. Did that stuff with PVC about 4 years ago and gave up after using variable exhaust vanes using a gyro.

Interesting thing is now all your framework is about 1/10 weight of what I had. Please video to show what happens. Only bad part of VTOL's is the wind blows the plane around and you can't stop that motion.

  16. I have a plan in my head but won't tell what it is that way nobody can say I told you so. :D :D

Also, I don't have a flight board and if I did I wouldn't know how to program it. ;)

Had a spare motor and a 3 view so decided a tiny Concorde would be rude not to.
17" span and 36" long. No idea if it'll fly but it looks the part at least :)
