Parkflyers International Design and Build Log: Curtiss P-40 Warhawk

Discussion in 'Scratchbuilding!' started by bimoadiprakoso, Apr 19, 2017.

  1. Found a couple pictures, quick explanation, the former for the skis is 3/32 plywood which is sandwiched inbetween 2 6mm foam formers. The bottom I used 1/64 plywood and wing tape to make it super slippery. Once I determined where the rods were going through I cut 4 squares of 3/32 plywood and countersunk them into the foam and glued inplace. Then I drilled the hole for the shaft to go through. They have taken some good hits and are in perfect condition still.

You take 4 days off and play with the little one, they grow up way to fast . I will dig the skis out and take a couple more pictures .

Trying some new way to mount my wheels. I also decided to make the wings removable. They my be fully removed after the first crash. But as we all know they can be rebuilt. And you never know until you try. Wish me luck.

  8. Nice mods, good luck on the maiden.

I would bend the suspension forward more, when you land it will probably do a nose plant,

  9. I just built some new skis for Annie, here are a little detailed pictures of them

  10. Well it is winter and News Years Day there is a ski day at the club weather permitting so let's get the winter boots on. ;) I will have two with skis then, the Pi P-40 and the Antonov AN-2 :) .

  17. Well I did take out the PI P40 today and all went well for 15 seconds and then a brown out or something to that effect, lost all controls shortly after taking off. very minor repairs required, just knocked the motor mount loose.

  19. Something with the rx I think , but could be the built in bec also. Motor was still running when it went down but no other controls were working. This P40 does have 6 servos going in it right now , I could unplug the flap servos and see what happens.
