Parkflyers International Design and Build Log: Curtiss P-40 Warhawk

  1. Well it's not painted but ready to test, stole my Propdrive 2836 1400kv motor out of one of the combat planes, actually the Bloody Wonder to be exact (spare) :) . 50A esc and the 10X5 APC gas prop on 3S should do good for some more pranging. :D

  2. Well the P-40 is now painted too. Ran out of grey so I made it dirty like Bimo's ;) , graduated some black into the leading edges. Now I have a dirty bird. :)

    That`s not likely.
It would be easier and quicker if I made them from depron and that`s not going to happen either.
I will have to look for a new field.

  10. The PI slightly redesigned P-40, scary launch but once up it flew great. Almost a vertical landing in the wind, little bit of a thump that broke the skis off

  13. Well the landing broke the skis loose doesn't hep when it's minus 13 , I gather the foam get's a little brittle but I did notice the motor mount foam pieces were cracked. So not only a new motor mount but I decided to rebuild the wing and try a little different configuration. ;)

  16. One new wing built, thinner airfoil and a little larger step from the lower plate to the upper one at the trailing edge. No cf rods, cut 2 1/32 plywood spars which are glued inbetween the 3 foam spars, hoping this will be strong enough. In the third picture in the background is the old wing and you can somewhat see the difference in the thickness. It had a hard time against the 25k wind even though it flew like a charm.
Now to make a template of the new wing and make mounting structure.

  17. Well new supports and wing are now installed plus the new motor mounts, just the control rods and remount the skis and it's ready to test. Did I make it better or worse ;) , worse comes to worse I still have the original wing. :D :D

  19. No cart wheels, no cf rods in the wing at all and the outer 2/3 of the wing is just foam. :)

Might be a bit risky without carbon.
Watch out for fast rolls and tight loops when the wing gets loaded.
You could have wrapped the wing in BP, but I suppose it is too late now.
