Yeah, this Lowes foam is working surprisingly good for me.
I keep testing it and pushing it to see where it fails and so far so good.
The onion skin is a bit bothersome to peel off - so I just fly faster and let it blow off.

That's what I wanted to setup, a 8x4x3 on a 2S but I only have a couple old 2 cells and so many of these 3 cells around.
I also remember Airflow talking about with a smaller prop and heavier plane he had to hover with more power/thrust on which put more air over the controls.
I've always hovered with the larger softer props so I wanted to try this "backwards" way of a smaller fast prop to hover.

No, I'm just banging on the keyboard and hitting "post reply"
    What? You never do that?

This is good to know. A few of these builds I wanted to do again in depron over the winter months just because it is stiffer than MPF.

But reading this gives me an excellent alternative and even better. ..a local vendor instead of paying for shipping.

I'm building about 3 planes out of this cheap blue stuff for every one plane I build out of the expensive Depron.

It's been a great system to have a "A" foam and a "B" foam you know.
Here is the exact stuff I get, 3-4 day shipping too. Dow foam from Lowes

The FRC SBACH has room to work with.
I like how flexible this profile plane is.
I could load it up and not be penalized.

    Motor: MicroJet V3
    ESC: 30A
    Batt: 3S, 1300
Prop: GWS 7x3x3 cut down to 6 inches
    Servos: (3) HS-82 MG
    Gyro: (1) on the roll
    Weight: 15oz

    - The battery mod on the centerline gave it alot of “true” balance.
    - The plane was built with non ideal equipment and still flew better than expected.

Excellent to hear, Dave! From what I read about the real sbach it's a versatile plane also, so the characteristics must have carried through to our version!

Very cool to see a new trick added Dave! looked like it was really locked in doing that knife edge, looking forward to seeing the video on it. Thanks again for building!

I don't know how I missed this video, Dave! I was driving all day and saw your post but not the video. This is exactly the idea behind this sbach. We tried to size it for parkjet components and based on your video, I guess it works!

I just went back and read your sales page on this plane and saw that you guys did in fact plan for this.
Thanks alot for that, it worked great.

I got a couple more videos from that day I'll be posting. At the end of the day, Shannon was able to practice her flying with it. She flew for about 10 minutes and then "landed" it in the side of the hill.

Well, I swear I commented on this, but I think it was the youtube, haha. That's so nice to see, Dave, and one reason we chose the SBACH is because of this kind of performance! I thought I was getting better at flying 3d but I guess its the plane!! Kinda like the Mig2.88 is inverted. Isn't it a great backyard plane? Its not small, but it is easy to control in a small place. Thanks for posting the video, Dave!!!

That was what I've liked about this plane as well. Plug in a battery and go with a soft lazy fly to warm up the finger tips a little bit.

Second battery start leaning into it and it will literally hang on a wire for you. Soft and easy or testing the flex temper of your foam, it hasn't disappointed me yet.

Personally I liked the wing tips on when flying slow. That little bit of drag helps to slow down (steady) roll rate across the frame. Flying fast I would recommend dropping the wing tips.

I've heard the term "backyard plane" mentioned a couple times too.... I've got far too many trees and stuff to give enough room but I did it. A couple of slow circles and called it good. .... I had to try it.
