    FRC MiG 29 Maiden Video

I am very pleased with this insanely powerful Emax motor, along with the 6045 3 blade propeller and a 1300mAh 4s battery. The range between 20 to 40% throttle is more than enough to get out of most situations that can be dangerous. So much extra power left for escape maneuvers!

    Scale 110%
No EPP in this one. Therefore, slightly heavier than the predecessors.
A mix of 6 and 3mm Genuine Depron.

    Upper wing panel, 3mm Depron
    Main wing plate, 3mm Depron.
    Elevons, 3mm Depron
    Vertical stabilizers, 6mm Depron.
    fuselage/Main body, 3mm Depron.
    Main spine, 6mm Depron
    Weight RTF with 1300 4s battery. 22oz.
    Motors Emax RS2306 2750kv
    Props DAL 6045 3 blade.
    ESCs 30A

It is at least as effective as the DYS Storm Motor. The flight lasted for 8 39,6 minutes. With 27% left in the small 1300mAh 4s battery.

Going for the most radical setup right at Maiden :)
These DAL 6045 3 blades gives more than 2kg of thrust per motor.

Whether the hinges or ties, it was a clean fracture in the 3mm balsa wood just behind the hinges. Did not find the elevon, so I had to make a new one.:)

This gives a good indication at the amount of stress on the frame in that area. Surprisingly more than would have thought.

I found out the hard way on my first one when i pulled out the elevator control horn. It let go inside a turn, the inside elevon and in the moment i just couldn't figure out why won't it lift in the turn... just edge more downward.

Until i cut throttle did i realise I'm not holding the plane anymore and she nosed in.

That was good catch Lars, you live to fly another day.

    Sad Tom, hates nos crashes.:(

The new right elevon is now on,
I had to give up the fully movable elevons, to save them from being riped in pieces by the propwash.
New moving surface for elevons now down to 65%.
Manouverbility and rollrate decreased a bit, but still easy to get it stable in high alpha, the most inportant issue for me. :)

I've got to hand it to you Lars....

You do know how to make this plane look good.

You're performance literally thrusts this plane to the next level of excitement. Impressive work no less.

Thanks Tom! It's probably the best of all the best I've flown from the FRC Foamies Jet series. It feels like flying a stable delta design with canards, even though it is not.

    Wildthing

I am building a foam Mig-35 and I want to move from a center frame mounted prop to a twin elevon (rear) mounted props like your Mig-29. I ordered two Rctimer FR2205-2550KV motors and want to mount them on my elevons.

    Will the CG change?

What are the advantages or disadvantages in changing to a rear mounted prop?

    F1wanabe and Wildthing like this.
  18. CG mark will be the same, trick will be getting it to balance with the extra weight on the rear. Once you get most of the plane built start placing all your gear on it and see where everything has to be to get the balance right.eg, with the motors on the rear start placing servos and esc's, battery and so on onto it so you get a rough idea where everything has to be installed.

Should be a very agile plane when done even at low speeds. :)

Lars, what can I say? Each flight gets better and better! The part I love most is that you seem to have flourished with the low wing loading on the past few planes! I love the control you have flying low and slow, especially when I see you aiming the nose at the ground and pulling out a couple feet from the ground! First couple times I got nervous, but I can tell you are really in total control. The knife edge was great, but the rest of the flight was Awesome! Thanks for representing FRCFoamies so well!
