I used a metal 2mm rod within a 3mm cf tube and swept the rods backwards so that the canards were self centering in the air flow. This keeps stress off the servo and, should the servo linkage fail, the canards will stay level long enough to land. The metal on the front actually makes high alpha very stable with a little weight up front, but mainly it's durable. Here's a pic of my Su34 v4 with cf rods for lightweight, but you get the idea

I'm still poking around at this and right now I'm watching glue dry. It takes like 4 hours for jb weld to cure.

Good news is I can move onto something else :D[IMG]

    I did some stuff

Cutting out those big chunks of foam to accommodate the second motor really takes away a lot of needed support.

So I set to work to tighten this girl up and much to my chagrin... it worked really well.

    Below are notes.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

... and I almost forgot the vertical bracing. It holds it well but only under a load can I tell if it's going to oscillate in the turbulence so.

We'll see where that goes later. [IMG]

I also enclosed the hatch area which took away a lot of twist along the frame. I will cut the hatch out after I finish painting.

I added two long edge pieces on both sides.

I just need to clean up that onion peeling look on the fuselage and I'm ready to paint.

Oh.... and canards I'm just tweaked that it's gotten this far.

  7. I actually do like the idea of underneath center support extending all the way to between the motor mounts! I ended simply fiberglassing that small piece between the motors to avoid vibrations.

Just throwing this out there: i’ll be curious to know what happens if you cover the bottom portion all the way to back, sort of a semi-ducted fan setup there if you would... Would it have any changes in performance?

Also note that the cf supports below the prop slot and the foam adjacent to it is sort of weak spot during “pan-cake” landings. Using dry wall tape in those regions is highly recommended.

There is a length of cf strip glued inside that bridge. You may still be onto something though.

I could always go with Lars coating too. [IMG]

She is such an unusual looking craft. I find it quite attractive for that reason alone. I have yet to put the top skin on. I planned to use 3mm.

Neat plane and now to color it something. [IMG]
