5S Maiden done! Without any problems.:)

The old 110% MiG 2.88 is back on track after a summer break.
Heavier than ever, some more Oz than the MiG V4 with the same powertrain.
NTM 2200kv 2x1800mAh 5s. Nacelles, vert stabilizers and rear of the wings are replaced with new Depron.

    The 5s Maiden video later.

    Some pics.

  3. Wait, did you have mid-mount motors to begin with on this plane? Sorry, can't remember as I have seen most of your planes with motors in the vertical stabilizer...

Thanks Tom!, yes she does! Yeah you're right about that Malukk, semi-mid-mounted now. just 1 " further back than FRC Stock.:)

The Video 5s NTM 2200kv Maiden
...Kind of a trainer setup now, the motors are almost mounted ( 1 " behind) according to the FRCF plan. . It's not so responsive now... like it was with the motors mounded in the vertical stabilizers. But she's quite fun to fly anyway. Weight 43.9 Oz Thrust 120 oz. No slats.

It sounds different on 5s. It doesn't have that angry cat sound anymore.

Hmmm Tom., that's not good, it's very important having a great sound! I think I know what it is about, the sound becomes sharper when the motors are mounted in the vert stabilizers.
And I changed from APC two blade props, to the Master Airscrew 6x4x3 They are quieter...

Fine Tuning. The gain for the canard gyro is still to high, I need to lower it a bit before the next round. Then, some COG adjustment to get it to fall flat at idle, without using 100% up elev. It was easier before, when I had the motors in the vertical stabilizers.

Yes Greg, almost there! she's sliding around quite comfortable now, but I get less response from it now when having the motors further forward. What do you think of enlarging the control surfaces a bit?
I need to have it a bit more tail heavy too.

Time to move on with the building of the second FRC 110 Scale MiG 2.88

nacelles gets reinforced by two 1x6mm carbon fiber rods.

Yeah but,,, unfortunately Greg:( I usually fly around with the stabilizer off if there is no wind.
3D acts as heading hold only. When using the 3D mode, it does not work like a normal 2D dampening stabilizer. It just helps you to keep the plane in the last specified direction until a new command is made by the pilot.

I can adjust the gain 0-100% in flight by the radio, or shut down the ET completely .. But it makes no difference...

The plane is now less responsive than before, whether I fly it with the stabilizer off or not.
The reason must be that the motors are no longer in the vertical stabilizers.

I have just glued on some extension pieces to see what happens.:)

Part 2. the 5s Powertrain dialed in.

a lot more tail heavy now.
Bigger elevons and the battery pack
as far back as possible did it! Not so
maneuverable like the earlier prop in stab.
    version,, but almost. :)

Lars, that was really amazing! It gets more and more steady with each flight, and now the maneuverability is really good! Thanks for all your hard work on the 2.88- its wonderful to watch. Now, this looked more stable in high alpha than the su37. Do you still think the SU37 is better for high alpha?

    Greg, thanks
Yes so easy to keep the 2.88 steady... Assuming that both of them have two motors, mid-mounted. You have to fight it more, the FRC Su-37 to get it where you want it... it's more challenging to fly!
The 288 then... There are several important things in this futuristic designed jet that makes it so easy to keep steady at an extremely high angle of attack. The delta wing, the high and elongated nacelles, the huge vertical stabilizers, and the low positioned rudders that ends well behind the wing.
That's all it takes to get ein über stable high alpha trainer! The perfect parkjet for those who wants to practice high alpha:)

  18. Great flight as usual Lars...
At about 1:25, was that a rudder roll?
I have been doing rudder rolls on this plane and they are really a lot of fun as well as pleasant to look at!

...Yes! probably a rud roll because I can hear the RPM increases on one of the motors during the roll. As soon as I touch L/R rudder, diff-thrust gets activated.
