I weighed mine last night. Built entirely of 6mm Depron with the exception of a 3mm top skin.

I came in just a whisker over 20 ounces. 20.15 or something like that. That would include all hardware without a battery.

I become curious myself after I had realized the turnigy 2200kv acted as though the prop was on backwards. .. lotsa noise but very little thrust. I checked twice even but soon realized.

I'm going to need more motor for the horse power I'm calling for here. I went with the prop drive 2700 and am now waiting out the weather again. The steady wind on open ground is pretty brutal right now.

This was yesterday's first run with the turnigy motor.

You can see it really tried hard but just doesn't quite get there. She bounces nicely though.

  3. That was a close call Tom! Good thing you have some grass to bounce off of! Do you think its the problem with motor itself or you are not getting enough thrust from this?

Not enough push for the setup I'm using. Add a battery and I'm around 28 oz. I was told that this is the limit of this motor.

It would fly if I had heaved it harder in the air.... call it a video out take.

The stratigically placed car horn was there to cover up my reaction.

I finally got home to weigh the plane and she does weigh 970g (with a 2200mAh battery). I've removed all the extra ballast and she weighs 900g (with battery). I built the plane, using for the first time Corning 1/4" insulation and it's becoming apparent that it weighs a lot more than Model Plane foam that I normally used (I was trying to save some money) and not as rigid. I have a carbon fiber rod across the top of the wings but I felt it didn't keep the wing from flexing so I actually had to use an arrow shaft across the bottom to strengthen the wings and makes it more rigid. The shaft actually didn't add much weight. I'll get the plane balanced by making a hatch in the bottom of the plane and moving the battery back as needed. It's still really nose heavy if I place the battery in the battery box. I don't have an 1800mAh battery so I just have to try it with the 2200. I'll just have to see how it goes this way. What would be the wing loading impact If I put my NTM 2700kv motor on it? It has a thrust of 1.2kg with a 6x3 prop and 3s battery.

Well, the thrust will get it off the ground and you'll need to keep speed high. At least it should look pretty scale at a heavy weight! Are you setting the cg according to the planview. Having cg a little forward is ok, Btw, so don't sweat it to get the cg back.

Currently I do have the recommended CG position identified so I'll go with that and change out the motor.
    Thanks

Just switch out the generic 2700kv motor with a NTM 2700kv Propdrive motor. My weight is 900g but because the motor is heaver on the rear end so I can keep the battery in the battery compartment to balance the plane. This prop drive has 1.2kg of thrust with a 6x4 prop and a 11.1v 3s battery so I'm hoping in can push it along.

Greg, thanks again for the heads up. I can't get it in the air this weekend bad weather. maybe next week. I most likely won't put in in the air if it's super cold. But I'm not going to wait long either. We get afternoon temperatures in the low to middle 40 now sometimes and during our February thaw we've been know to get close to 50 during that time.

Possibly a normal grey scheme like the f18 I did, nothing to fancy. [IMG]

I'm curious to see how you outfit this one. Servo ...esc... linkage placement.

I like what Newt had done, F1 has offered his and I posted up what I did.... now you're up
