    - I first flew it around stock and it flies great! (a bit nose heavy is nice)
    - With the wings forward, it had a nice glide like a sailplane (pretty cool!)
    - I’ve now turned it into a research platform! (testing controls and center of mass)
Thanks Jay and Greg, you guys really made something new here!

Wow, excellent Dave, thank you for posting! Love the explanation of the spoiler effect you're getting there on the un-ailerons. I'm doing that! Oh, and fixing the plane BEFORE I it breaks? Genius! Well have to sell that with the extended warranty
Originally we were just going to offer 3 wings to glue on- unswept, mid sweep and swept-thinking that it's so easy to build you could just build 3 separate f14s. After doing the screw mod for Testing, it kinda made sense to make them moveable. But as you said, it is so much fun to experiment with each configuration that it may be worth Making 3 separate planes after all! Choose your wing configuration and go with it! Oh, and the first thing we discussed was that we can't have one cf rod across the whole span, so we needed to do something to give stiffness other ways. The combination of cf rods and double thickness works - with most foams, Dan-pretty well, haha.
Your motor position is right on for the unswept. The original prototype we did had the motor about where you have it but it wasn't ideal for swept. So, we compromised to make the same motor position and battery position work with each set up. Maybe we'll post ideas on optimum set up for each individual wing configuration in the thread in case someone wants to do 3 separate planes?
Nice elevons! Yes, we were shooting for a scale profile or silhouette on them like we see in gibbys pics...

Oh great, so really you need 4 of these to really do it all. :)
One to set up stock so you can have it do all 3 wing sweeps like you guys designed...
And then the other 3 are all devoted and "hard mounted" to their specific wing position.
That way they can all have their own mods.

Wow guys, you really made a plane that can stay interesting for a long time... There is always another angle to explore and mod. I'm glad I got a big scrap box, looks like I'll be making a couple more variants of this one during the winter.

I could see myself either making another one of these..or cutting the wings off and going mid-sweep....the roll rate i have is so crazy at full sweep that i think mid sweep would be just fine...i pulled the silver tape off mine...made it look wierd...so back to grey and white...looks better...

I was going to paint this one, but the green and yellow have such a "test plane" feel to it I might just keep it as is. I always like to make my 2nd plane nice and the first one the test dummy.

Very nice chip !! Now if only the weather would cooperate over on this side of map.

I couldn't sit back and watch you guys have all the fun! Here is my first FRC profile waiting for electronics. 190 grams. I must be building heavy, used 2/3 bottle of FoamTac! image.jpeg
