Had to fly the other charged batteries...still didn't get a chance to really see how it performs low and slow...wind was gusting from various directions. I got enough of a feel of it to know I like it.

    NICE!!!! Great flying there, Chip!

    [IMG][IMG]

Flight ready (as soon as I put the prop on)... although I probably won't get to fly it 'til Sunday :(
For those that have already maidened their Tomcat - how far forward from the motor mount is the CG?

We should have made a "refueling" boom for Dave, Jay! Dave, that is a center line battery there, isn't it? That'll definitely help roll on unswept. Really looking forward to seeing what you find in this one! Dave always finds neat stuff when he flies our planes.

Thanks and thanks, Greg! Very much looking forward to it.
During my build, I noticed the I had to cut an extra 1/2" or so from the back of the vertical portion of the fuse to get all the pieces for the mount to line up properly. I think my motor may be sitting farther forward than intended.
My motor mount is ~1.5" forward from the base of the vertical stabilizers. How does that compare w yours? Another reason I ask is, my 3S 1500 battery has to be WAAAAY far forward to achieve that balance for that 5.25" CG.

FWIW, AUW minus battery is 346g

Hey gibby, the plane from Gerg and Jay's video seems to fly great stock.
I'm going to set mine up stock at first, fly it around, and then I may end up moving my motor up for hoots. Just so I can put in my non-recommended smaller battery.

That's about the same distance as mine, Gibby! And, moving motor forward helps with the Unswept flying but may require repositioning the battery during swept. We tried to make a motor position that will allow a 2200 3s to stay put for all three wing configurations. with the 1300 you will definitely be forward a bit unless- I hate to say it- add a real LANTIRN on the nose :D Oh, and nice apple watch!

Haha! Thanks, Greg. A lot of good info there. Not as flight ready as I thought. Gotta find a way to try to get the thing to fly right without my battery LANTIRN. Lol

Looks about right. Your pinch point looks close. My 1800mah battery is more out than in for balance.

Well daggum. I'm scratching my head trying to think of a way to preserve the gorgeous aesthetic, concealing the battery, without having to add dead weight to the nose...

At least this time for the first time ever, I believe, I managed to build light :)

    grams/oz
    • no battery: 346/12.2
    • 3S 1500 20C: 471/16.61
    • 3S 2200 25C: 520/18.34
    • 3S 2200 35C: 529/18.66

    ** EDIT **
    SOLUTION!!!

Well that's pretty nice gibby! And it's pretty well centered, that will be smooth for rolls.
