    New test flight.
Local time half past five, countdown has begun ...
The plane is loaded with its new battery and a TGS / EMP 6x3 Prop ...
Good weather but unfortunately still too windy ...

Yes. Greg, it's exciting and nerve wracking ... :)
But time seems to run away from me today ... Soon sunset and still windy ...
There tend to be a bit calmer in the morning now when the wind blows from the southwest. Maybe I'll try around 6-7 on Sunday morning, if I have to cancel today's attempt.

Back after a short flight of 3.5 minutes. It seemed less windy, but out there over the field... was a little gusty, so. Well, 27 oz is not a problem for the FRC F/A-18 Hornet.
Quite the opposite, it's still too lightweight for my taste. Hard to do Cobras, it just stops in the air, too little kinetic energy ... I had to end this testing for the evening, after a close to the ground maneuver .. No damage, but one of two zipties to the motor mount went off when the motor hit in the ground, according to my calculations! This solution has saved 5 motor mounts for me so far ... F-22 V2, F-18 V3, FRC Su-34, MiG V3 and now FRC F/A-18 Hornet.
Tomorrow I'll try with an APC 6x4E on 4s. But first, a bench test, to check up on Ampere's.

    The 4s 6x3 TGS/EMP - APC 6x4 Video online when tomorrow's APC 6x4 test is over.

...Forgot to mention that the top speed (Air speed) increased from 53 to 71 mph .. a short burst only.

Just finished a new 4s "Motor on the aircraft Thrust test"
    Prop APC 6x4E
    Max Amp 28.2
    Max Thrust 38.2 oz
This shows that the EMP/TGS 6x3 is more efficient and "kinder" to the motor.

    EMP/TGS 6x3 Data

    Max Amp. 26.7
    Max Thrust 39.2 Oz

The 4s APC 6x4 test Lasted only a few minutes.

Before the crash against the asphalt ... ;) Escape maneuver to avoid the power line...

Here is my incomplete 4s TGS/EMP6x3 and APC 6x4 test video.
I did not have time to try the top speed with 4s APC 6x4 setup
before I crashed into the asphalt.

Ouch!! Although i have seen you recover from worse scrapes. :)

    Any hardware damage?

How is it you determine rate of speed..telemetry?

I asked a cop once if he would clock me and he did show up but had to run a call so it never happened.

yes 4s made a lot of difference compared to the 3s setup :)

hardware, Yes Tom, the TV Jaw servo is out of service ... Must cut some foam to replace it ...

    "determine rate of speed"
I have a airspeed (air to air) microSensor V3 (the same as in a full-scale aircraft) from EagleTree Systems.'
    http://www.eagletreesystems.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=62&product_id=63

the Pitot tube is located on the right LEX on this plane.
The only true airspeed sensor to use if you want to know how fast you are flying through the air. GPS only displays the aircraft's speed relative to the ground ... And will show you the wrong value as soon as it is windy. This gives you the correct value even if you have 20 mph (or whatever) headwind, tailwind, or crosswind ... :)

Well you can take cold comfort in knowing i squashed the nose on the green mig...my first build and therefore was my favorite. Now i have a good excuse to move into the orange one so there is a silver lining somewhere amidst all that i think. :)

Maybe not quite as many bandages as yours but it did carry a few scars. It was my own fault... I let it get too dark out there. My excuse was I'm moving into a new radio and trying to get more familiar with that much and how it behaves..very well except for that pilot error thing....sheesh.

Then to top it off my little cam fell of my hat while doing the walk of shame so i can't even show off the videos of my good flights.

    .....argh.

Nice flying, Lars! The F18 doesn't handle the weight like the Mig, does it? You still have total control right up to the end though.

WOW! What can i say, just love this plane. The plane acts like it has thrust vectoring when all it has is elevons and vtail acting on pitch. The look of this plane when it flys past is just so awesome! Cant wait to take it out again and really dial it in. After a few flights i found it to roll more smoothly with reduced throws for roll in the elevons, so most of the roll comes from the ailerons and a little bit from elevons.
