    f4mnect -
I snapped the motor mount on my first Alpha Jet too! Looked just like yours.
My new Alpha is almost ready to maiden.

yup - that's why I wimped out and tossed it and built a new one.
I did autopsy it first though - just to see where I could beef it up.
Probably just try to not smack it into the ground while inverted next time and I won't have a repeat ! ;)

Did you use thats fork shapes spacer on top? That thing should have taken a lot of the force on the top joint and kept it together. Although blue core is a little more flimsy. Do you have any depron to use on the motor mount?

Mine was Home Depot pink FFF. I agree - it is pretty flimsy building material. I beefed it up on Alpha 2.

plan printed and cut, then realized i only have 3mm depron left (10sheet haha) no 6mm look like have to postpone alpha jet until i have the time to buy more sheet of depron

You could laminate a couple sheets of 3mm with spray adhesive like super 77. That would be super stiff!

3mm depron sheet hard to fine here, so i keeping them for others project, hopefully the art store nearby still have some depron for some reason they sell like hot cake here always low on stock

  12. just use the foam that comes with the meat from Wal-Mart for your motor mount. Next time you build because it's a lot stiffer and stronger

Not bad dan! I think you are right, if you want it to fly straight and level hands off you need cg further back than stock, but as it's called the alpha jet, stock cg provides great high alpha stability but not as aerobatic. Great flight though dan, looks cool with the red and blue stripes! I found a 1800 just before he nose starts is a good compromise.

You beat me to the maiden! Nice job. I am hoping to maiden next weekend, if the stars will align for me (good weather, good health, day off work & no emergency "honey do's"). We'll see if i can make it happen :-D

Well my biggest issue is i added a ton of nose weight (pennies glued into the nose cone) to try to hit your CoG and think i over did it by a bunch..and i'm a Glue A-holic! So i think i just added so much weight it was waaaaay off....that and the 2200 up front all the way was a bad recipe...hell i'm glad i could fly it! I didn't get the 3rd flight on tape....put a 1600 in there and far back..and it was a ton better...flew pretty much straight and wasn't dropping the nose hard....the weight was my issue for sure....gonna lop off the wing tips and cut out my wing spacers and try a light battery farther back and see how it is....once i put the lighter battery in there i liked it a lot more...think a little tweaking and it will fly as advertised ;)

  17. yeah I too don't like the 2200 battery. Too heavy. I fly with a 1300 and I love it

I'm going to lay out my plans tonight. Will the Grayson MJV3 work well?
