HA! Thanks! Should be fun having maiden flight in a gymnasium. Maple floor is pretty tough on props.

A foot of snow is exactly what I need for softer landings, could you please throw some snow across the pond!;)

    Thanks!
Well, I put a 9 x 3.8 prop on and with a 2 cell 500 it would barely lift out of my hand. Probably would fly but not good for indoor 3D.
Switched to a 800mah 3 cell and she is got lots of power. Might switch to a 10" prop after maiden...we will see.
Decided to add removable landing gear and a tail skid for indoor flight. Gymnasium floor likes to eat props!

Ha - Airflow - I thought it never stopped snowing there!
My Grand dad was from Norway. He and his brothers came here and worked on building the Empire State building. He was my best friend when I was young - died when I was 8.
Taught me to speak some Norwegian - although I never got to use it much her in New York. Maybe if I lived in Minnesota!
    Jag elsker å fly !

Newt, do you think that prop may have been too much prop? I was doing a 7x3.8 and 8x3.8 on mine on 2s. It had plenty of thrust on the 20g motor.

Greg you are so right. Tried 9x4.7, 9x 3.8, 10x6 (not good at all!) Just switched to 8x 3.8sf. Way better.
Gym floor is kicking my butt!
    Recharging and back up.

Greg it worked great. Thank you . 7x3.8. 2 cell was ok. 3 cell was awesome!

Built this FRC Foamies 3D Beast at 80% size to try it out in the gymnasium.

This video is of the maiden flights - edited only to help with boredom =/
We tried a variety of props and battery combinations. Also played with rates, expos and CG.
After chatting with Greg from FRC Foamies I tried his suggestions and she smoothed out nicely.
Can't wait to try her outside where I can get some altitude.
I was hoping my friend Alex would be here to fly it for me - he has amazing talent- but he couldn't make it. Maybe next time we fly indoors.
And... after all that abuse she still lives on !

Hey Mark, I enjoyed watching your video. Kind of fun to watch the steps you went through getting it dialed in. This looks like it would be a fun plane for some indoor flying. Just got to get it dialed in, but it looks like you have about got it! Nice video! Thanks for sharing.

Reading the forum and I saw your post. Finishing up the build. I used 6mm MPF and 40% KF4 with 6mm MPF on both wings. I also tried new technique (saw video on Foam Tac website) with drywall superlite fiberglass tape from Lowe's on the elevator and rudder to stiffen them. Used Tacky Glue and squeegeed on a super thin layer. I used Blenderm for the bottom side of the hinges. Tacky Glue is $2.50 at Hobby Lobby, I didn't want to save Foam Tac at $11 at bottle. I hope to have it flying soon! IMG_3866.JPG IMG_3867.JPG

    Sgmoran,
Thanks for your response, it looks good! and I think it will make a difference.
I had the same KF4 setup on my RCP Extra 300. And it made a difference!
    Good luck with the Maiden!

Maiden didn't go so well. With the slightest bit of throttle it went nose up to a harrier. Running Grayson 3D combo. Moved my CG forward, same issue. Cracked the fuselage at the wings mounts, will be an easy repair. My guess is was tail heavy. Any thoughts?

Sgmoran, is the motor mounted level? It sounds like the motor is pulling the plane upwards. If it was a cg issue then the plane would want to harrier with throttle on or off. The other thing could be a flap effect. Are the aileron surfaces perfectly straight? The prop wash covers all the surfaces so if any are off it could make a difference with increased throttle.

Thanks for the recommendations, I will double check. My HobbyKing 3d stabilizer/receiver combo came in, when I repair the Beast I'm going to put it in. I had several great flights with F117 and F18 so it was a good day. Learning to high alpha the F18--since its been repaired once, I am not hesitant to be more aggressive.
