Well, maiden was... interesting to say the least. Definitely had some CG issues. Tail heavy and the motor prop combo I had didn't provide enough power. I was using a 1450kv with 8x4 prop and 1600 2C batt. Very under powered. I swapped to a 3C 1600 batt and lots of power and better CG, but damn she's a touchy beast. I'm also pretty certain the 3 axis stabilizer I had on was fighting my inputs. Too much roll, not enough pitch, and yaw the way you think of Gods as big.
Despite my best efforts and trying D/R expo, she kept drifting nose up and right. Finally after three brief attempts, she rolled over and nosed in. No damage to plane or prop but the motor mount did skew, so that ended that for the night.
I'm far from done with her. Quite the opposite. Challenge accepted Beast.
I'll edit the video and post asap.

Not bad for a maiden! Could of been worse. How is your cg compared to the plans and how much rudder deflection have you got? You need to use plenty of rudder input in the turns other wise the tail drops and it's hard to just bank and yank these 3d planes. Good luck on the next flight and thanks for building!

CG was bang on according to plans. Had at least an inch+ rudder in each direction.
I've been building and flying for almost two years now, but until a recent Polaris build, and this Beast I've never had or used rudder.

I love the look of this plane, and I'm very excited to learn and master this Beast.

If youre not crashing, youre not learning, right? ;)

That's a good looking plane! I've got 3s batteries for my next maiden. The hardest part for me was using rudder 100% of the time. On parkjets you bank and already the plane starts turning. On this, you bank and immediately start knife edging! This thing knife edge into never until you get the rudder down. It does feel like you don't have control for a few minutes. My hands are moving like they do with a quad copter. I love learning 3d flying, but I've got to find a gym to practice in since I can't get get still enough day. Oh, and in as far as throws, I've got servo arm extenders on mine for almost 3 inch throws each way. That really gives the control to do wacky 3d type stuff!

I have the plans printed and will be slowly building this beast.

I have read the whole thread and there is not a whole lot of footage of the beast.

I have not seen one video bij BM and only one by F1 and harpax or did I mis some?

Good to hear, Maestro! Here is Boxernads in case you didn't see it:

I have flown a total of 3 times, and 2 of them were in breezy conditions so I didn't bother posting. At 10 oz any breeze takes it away. But, I do like the way it feels comparing it to the excellent twisted hobby edge 540. The bi plane is extremely steady especially in knife edge. Everyone has mentioned struggling to get cg forward, so in your planning, I would suggest mounting everything as far forward as possible. I've got the 3s batteries ready to go so I'm just waiting for calm days. Good luck!

    Hahaha...

I just watched the maiden flight by BM and I just realized I have seen it before and it made me not want to build this..

The harpax video somehow triggered me to start building this..

Thought about it, the BM video is very calm, quiet dare I say almost boring

Sorry, my opinion... But seeing harpax having fun and a laugh trying to figure out how to set CG got me interested.

Not a problem maestro, its not my usual style of video. The plane is still in one peace and ready for the next calm day.
