BNF / PNF Freestyle Quad - the GepRC KHX5 Elegant :)

Discussion in 'Quadcopters' started by DutchRC, Aug 13, 2018.

  1. Halloa people :)

in case you have come across my channel lately, you probably know I like the KHX5 Elegant frames from GepRC quite a bit.. By now I have build 3 quads with that frame..
BUT.. now there's allso a BNF / PNF version of it, for those of us that just wanna fly instead of building the quad themselves :)

Link to this quad: GepRC KHX5 Elegant BNF / PNF version

Excellent! The drawback of a ready-made quad is offcourse that you can't pick & chose the components yourself.. So has GepRC done a good job at that for us??

I'm not exactly impressed with their pricing is all.

I've also had my eye on the new talon frame ... I like that concept. Either way these are two I've been watching while tagging my wish list for a free style quad.

  3. To put the price in perspective: This BNF version cost me € 235..
The other self-build version in my video cost me € 350..

But nope.. GepRC isn't a budget-brand.. The MX3 Sparrow is only +/- €10 less by the way..
YES! The Talon frame is sexy :) I wouldn't call it a freestyle frame per-sé.. but looks nice regardless

This antenna(s) bracket on the tail end has captured my eye though. It would appear to be an easy to print thing ... I'll have to search this on thingiverse.

  5. It actually IS a 3D printed piece.. And it would be a nice fan-service / customer-service if GepRC would make it (and them arm-protectors) available on Thingiverse....

  6. So.. does this RTF version of the GepRC KHX5 actually fly decently??
AND how does it stack up against a custom build one??

Can you show the difference between your antenna placement vs that nice orange BNF frame ?

Wondering if there is a noise field between the motors that way or ...

Down thrust is forcing the antennas to bow downward under load creating a less than desired radiation pattern.

    ... just a thought.

  8. Well.. yes.. Here is a picture of my self-build quad:

Hmm the inline picture doesn't work.. Does this link??

the bright-blue things, sticking out from the rear arms are the antenna..

And here is the BNF version:

That horizontal bar at the rear are the 2 antenna.. Obviously they aren't at a 90-degree angle to eachother..

If the downward thrust Does do 'something' to them antenna.. I kinda don't kow really..

Call me superstitious I guess. I've always had the best luck with a rabbit ear array or a vertical (horizontal polarized) wire radial.

An RSSI alarm and you mentioned yourself always has my attention. Enable logging to see at where the level the rssi is actually triggering at ?

Check to verify if it's plugged onto the reciever board correctly ?

Let me know where this ends up as you follow up on the fpv review ... ...or if I am just being paranoid.

    Thank you Dutch

  10. I definately simply Don't want hear 'RSSI low' at these kinds of distences eighter.. Do keep in mind by the way it's my radio that determines if a value is perceived as 'to low'..

Yep.. I will be checking the antenna connectors..

The WORST thing that can kinda happen is that it never happels again :p (in which case I'll never know what was up :p) ...
there is a high-power WIFI access point right behind me by-the-way.. but I've flown there in numerous video's...

  11. Time for an update / long term review on this (awesome) quad :)
